ADWPJJC 2024: Amateurs take the stage and keep the action going with exciting battles

The sixteenth edition of the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 is still going strong in the UAE. After being kicked off with a Festival on November 6th, the tournament went on to open its fight areas for Parajiu-Jitsu and Youth athletes on the following days, with each group leaving their hearts on the mats as they sought to conquer the coveted ADWPJJC gold.

Taking place between November 10th and 11th, the Abu Dhabi World Amateur Jiu-Jitsu Championship took over the Mubadala Arena, bringing some of the most promising and talented colored belts in the game and giving them the chance to accrue some valuable experience as they competed in one of the most important battlefields of the sport. Men's GI / Blue / Master 1 / 85KG - Movsar Dolugov vs Rukman Tavbulatov

Representing Team Nogueira Dubai, the Kazakh Movsar Dolugov was unstoppable in the 85kg division. With four opponents standing between himself and the gold medal, Movsar managed to submit Sagi Userbayev, Abubakar Aliyu, and Toma Palade to advance through the bracket, ending each of the matches with less than two minutes on the clock. For his final round, Movsar went up against the Russian Rukman Tavbulatov in a match that once again showcased just how dangerous his Jiu-Jitsu is. Stepping onto the mats with a highly aggressive game, Movsar did not care for points and kept looking for the submission at all times, finally getting his opportunity around halfway through the match and taking the title back to his homeland.

Men's GI / White / Master 1 / 94KG - Bakhromjon Boymirzaev vs Sophiane Abra

In a memorable campaign through the 94kg division, the Uzbekistani Bakhromjon Boymirzaev went through all of his opponents to reach the title. Coming from three submission wins in the bracket, Bakhromjon stuck to his winning strategy and it paid off in his final match against Morocco's Sophiane Abra. Just like his previous duels, Bakhromjon managed to land a beautiful takedown early on, seizing the control from the top and applying pressure to keep his opponent from moving around as he locked a tight thrust choke with less than two minutes on the clock. With this last victory, Bakhromjon cemented his trip to the top of the podium.

Men's GI / Blue / Amateur / 77KG - Mohammed Bin Huraymil vs Matvey Malakhov

Showcasing not only his talent but also his endurance, the Saudi Arabian Mohammed Bin Huraymil defeated four opponents on his way to the 77kg final. Starting with a 3-1 win over Shane Carmody, Mohammed proceeded to submit both Imran Peco and Mohammed Khorsandi to reach the semifinal, in which he bested Temirlan Khalidolla by 7-0. Facing the Russian Matvey Malakhov in the gold round, Mohammed found himself in a balanced match until about halfway through the duel, when he saw his chance and locked a tight submission to become the champion.

Women's GI / White / Amateur / 49KG - Xaiane Fernando vs Anna Boiko

Fighting out of Angola, Xaiane Fernando conquered the gold medal in the ADWPJJC and took an important step toward her career in the sport. Starting in the quarterfinal, Xaiane landed a lightning-fast submission over Jida Ayytani to reach the semis, in which she dominated Rasha Alshimmari by scoring 10-0 before submitting around the two-minute mark. In her last match, Xaiane went up against the Ukrainian Anna Boiko, who put up a big fight but was ultimately unable to fully contain her opponent's advances. With a 2-0 on the scoreboard, Xaiane took the win and the title in the 49kg division.

While the Youth and Amateur stages of the tournament have now been completed, the ADWPJJC still has a lot of thrills in store for fight fans. Starting this Tuesday, November 12th, the warriors from the Master category will take over the stage and showcase their experience as they seek the top of the podium.
