Weekend Recap: Glaucia Braga and Kirk Huff take the double gold in the Orlando International

January 27, 2025

Bringing the action on the last weekend of the month, the AJP Tour Orlando International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025 landed at Edgewater High School this Sunday, January 26th. With the competition bringing some of the toughest local and foreign competitors to Florida, the event hosted memorable battles between athletes of all ages and graduations.

Coming as the highlight of the competition, the Brazilian Glaucia Braga (Gracie Barra USA) went above and beyond in her campaign, taking home the coveted double gold. Starting in the Master 1 category, Glaucia entered the 95kg division and faced the Chilean Barbara Cuevas (Fight Sports) in the final, taking the win and her first title of the day with a 3-1 score. They ran into each other again later, this time in the Professional Open Heavyweight division, and the duel played out almost exactly the same as the previous one. More familiar with her opponent's game this time around, Glaucia unleashed her Jiu-Jitsu and scored multiple times throughout the match, giving Barbara no chance to do the same. When the clock ran out, a 4-0 score put Glaucia atop the podium once again.

Meanwhile, the local Kirk Huff (Team Vaghi) was another name to look out for in the tournament. First competing in the Master 2 category, Kirk entered the No-Gi 94kg bracket and faced Puerto Rico's Felix Carrion (RCJ Machado), conquering the title after the regulated time with a 3-0 score. Later on, Kirk made his way back to the mats and joined the No-Gi Open Heavyweight division in the Professional category, facing the Brazilian Matheus Oliveira (Gracie Barra Kissimmee) in the final round. While there were no submissions from either side, the fight went very much in favor of the American competitor, who gained and maintained the upper hand throughout the duel, closing his golden campaign with a 7-2 win to take the double gold.
