AJP Rules Amendments from 1st Jan 2020

The current Jiu-Jitsu rules applied is the AJP Rules.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam 2020 and Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship will have the following amendments for  Blue Belt, Purple Belt, Brown Belt and Black Belt (other events and white belts remains the same).

Fight Time

  • All Matches are 5 Minutes.
  • Juveniles 4 minutes


  • Advantages become 1 point
  • Penalty becomes 1 point for the opponent

*Only points will be displayed on the scoreboard.

Referee Decision:

  • In case of a tie during the normal time (5min), the athlete who scored last will be declared the winner.
  • In case of a draw (equal scores 0-0 or due the penalties points) = 1min extra golden score (who score first will be declared the winner).
  • In case of a tie after the extra minute where the final score is 0-0, the winner will be determined by referee decision

Falcon Eye (VAR)

  • During the final each athlete's coach has one call for VAR (Video Assistance Replay) per match. If the coach's request is confirmed by VAR, the coach will retain his call to use again during the match*
    • * Applicable only for Brown and Black Belts (Adult and Master 1 divisions)

FROM: 3.2.6.When an athlete grabs the inside of the sleeves of the opponent’s Gi top or pants.

TO: 3.2.6. When an athlete grabs the inside of the sleeves of the opponent's Gi top or pants and also when an athlete grabs the inside of the pants at the opponent's waist.
