Weekend Recap: AJP brings the fires of competition to Europe with the Austria National
October 28, 2024
Taking place at the Sporthalle Lieblgasse on Sunday, October 27th, the AJP Tour Austria National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 was the sole competition taking place this weekend, as the AJP focused all the action on the city of Vienna and brought about a stellar tournament.
With colored and black belts being welcomed into the venue, the event had four fight areas active at all times, as athletes of all ages and graduations stepped onto the mats and tested their skills against one another. Coming as the highlight of the competition, purple belts Charalampos Ntevrentlis and Danijel Petrucic managed to stand out from their peers as they conquered the coveted double gold.
Representing Greece, the Professional Charalampos Ntevrentlis (Roger Gracie Academy Austria) fought with and without the gi to dominate the 69kg division. Starting in the gi, Charalampos first faced Czechia's Jakub Machula (Jungle BJJ), breaking a 2-2 tie with a submission around the two-minute mark to advance in the bracket. In the final, the Greek athlete went up against the Serbian Bojan Pavlovic (Team Burning), getting his first gold medal with a 5-0 score. Charalampos faced Bojan again in the No-Gi bracket but landed another 5-0 on the scoreboard to get his second title.
Meanwhile, in the Master 1 category, the Serbian Danijel Petrucic (Roger Gracie Academy Austria) showed his experience as he conquered two gold medals. Starting in the 120kg division, Danijel first dominated the Emirati Waseem Abu Shoosha (UAEJJ Arena) in the semifinal, scoring 8-0 and then submitting halfway through the match. In the final, Danijel went up against the Bosnian Ahmed Babic (Gremlin Jiu Jitsu) and was forging ahead on the scoreboard with a 2-0, but Ahmed ended up making an illegal move and got disqualified, leaving the Serbian to climb the podium. Danijel still had more fight left in him, so he took off his gi and made his way to the 85kg division, in which he submitted the local Markus Wallinger (Gracie Barra Graz) after a balanced duel to once again rise as a champion in the tournament.
