ADWPJJC 2024: Professionals compete in the Main Bracket and fight to reach the finals

Bringing even more action to the sixteenth edition of the ADWPJJC 2024, the Professional athletes took over the Mubadala Arena mats once again this Friday, November 15th, and fought to reach the finals of their respective weight classes. With the coveted ADWPJJC medal and 4000 global ranking points on the line, each competitor fought tooth and nail to advance through the brackets and be this much closer to becoming a Hero at the end of the tournament.
As expected, the Professional black belt category was the highlight of the competition, with renowned athletes of the international scene stepping onto the mats and putting on amazing performances on their way to the finals. In the 56kg division, the Emirati Zayed Alkatheeri and the Brazilian Thalison Soares will be fighting for the title, with Zayed submitting Rafayel Kostanyan in the semis and Thalison outscoring Samat Aitpanbet before reaching the final. The 62kg division final will be another Brazil/UAE match, with Jefferson Fagundes and Khaled Alshehhi going up against one another. Jefferson got his spot in the gold round after submitting his teammate Yuri Hendrex and Khaled got the better of Enrique Guerrero in the semifinal.
Moving on to the 69kg division, the Emirati Mohammed Alsuwaidi found his way to the final after beating Diego Sodré in the semifinal, but he'll be up against the experienced Thiago Macedo, who'll be fighting for the gold after his victory over Toth Zoltan. In the 77kg division, the current ADWPJJC champion Pedro Ramalho will be looking to bring another title to Portugal after submitting Pierpaolo Cotroneo in the semis, but Brazil's Lucas Protasio will also be fighting for the gold after beating Jefferson Goteu in his penultimate fight in the bracket.
Up in the 85kg division, the Australian William Dias will face the Brazilian Uanderson Ferreira for the title, with the former reaching the final after a points win over Inelton Bombo and the latter coming from a submission victory over David Cartwright. Bringing another match-up between Brazil and Australia, the 94kg division will be decided between Fellipe Andrew, who comes from a victory over Luiz Henrique Betta in the semis, and Roberto Dib Frias, qualified for the final in a battle against Renan Cruz.
Closing the men's bracket, the 120kg division will feature the Brazilian Felipe Bezerra and Russia's Anton Seleznev. Fellipe had two fights and got to the gold round after outscoring Tacio Carneiro, while Anton defeated three opponents, the last being Vladimir Blium in the semifinal.
Moving on to the women's side, the 49kg division final will be fought between Brazil's Grasielle Brandão and Spain's Sonia Ariz, with the former coming from a win over Yasmyn Castro and the latter beating Rosangela Teixeira. In the 56kg division, the Brazilian Maria Luisa Delahaye got a win over Mongoljin Ganbaatar to reach the final and will face Asma Alhosani, who comes from a points win over Lina Grosset.
The American Sarah Galvão enters the 62kg division final after beating Rafaela Bertolot in the semifinal and will face her Italian teammate Tamara Toros, who beat Violeta Angelova in her penultimate match. The 70kg gold round will be fought between Brazil's Sabatha Laís, who beat Giovanna Carneiro in the semis, and the Canadian Lilian Marchand, who submitted all her opponents in the bracket, including Denise Krahn in the semifinal. Last but not least, Brazilians Yara Nascimento and Leticia dos Santos will fight for the 95kg title, with both competitors having beaten Yasmira Dias and Anabel Lopez to reach the gold round.
