August 30, 2025
Taking place at the Sport Academy Dinamo this weekend, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour Moscow 2025 has officially landed in the Russian capital, bringing talented competitors of all ages and graduations to fight for one of the most coveted medals in the sport and a whopping 2000 global ranking points. Starting this Friday, August 29th, the event set up five fight areas across the venue and welcomed athletes from the Amateur and Youth categories to kick off the tournament and warm up the mats for the following days of the competition.
With the locals taking all the highlights on the first day, the Amateur category brought the exciting campaign of Nikita Avilov, a 17-year-old blue belt representing PSLPB Cícero Costha who dominated the 62kg division, starting with a submission win over Dmitrii Burin in the last stretch of the semifinal. Coming in hot to join the gold round, Nikita went up against the Swiss Mikhail Smirnov in an intense battle for the title, with the former quickly taking the lead on the scoreboard, taking control of the flow of the match, and then launching a merciless attack to get the three taps and become a champion in the event.
Another competitor who shone in the Amateur class was Valeria Lugovaya, a blue belt representing Kristian Cestaro Jiu Jitsu Association who emerged victorious from the 62kg division after showing her prowess in two matches. In the semifinal, Valeria went up against Diana Pogosyan in a balanced duel that took up the entirety of the regulated time and saw both sides scoring multiple times, but the former's technique gave her the upper hand, and the bout ended in an 8-6 score. In the final, however, Valeria put the pedal to the metal and put her teammate Anna Demidova in a rough spot as she quickly took the lead on the scoreboard by 5-0 and then went on to lock a tight submission halfway through the second minute of the gold round to secure her spot atop the podium.
Moving on to the Youth category, two grey belts stole the spotlight by showing promising displays of technique and grit to reach the coveted ADGS gold medal. First, the Kaylas Team representative Leon Ageevichev left his mark in the 38kg division, submitting Vlad Pozdniakov, outscoring Konstantin Lapin by 16-0, and closing his rampage with a comfortable 4-0 win over Muhammadkodir Bahodirzhanov in the final match. Last but not least, the talented Mariya Lukhanina, from Piratas BJJ Academy, made short work of her opponents in the 28kg division, submitting both Viktoriia Ivanina and Valentina Filatova before the clock hit one minute in each of the duels.
With the first day concluded, the ADGS Moscow now prepares to continue the action this Saturday, August 30th, with the Youths coming back for more battles and the Masters making their anticipated debut in the event.
