Weekend Recap: Mongolia and Brazil join hands with AJP and close January with outstanding tournaments

On the last weekend of the month, AJP has set its sights on two countries to host its highly technical competitions. With a National in Mongolia and an International in Brazil, athletes had options all across the end of the week to show their skills and test their training, so without further ado, check out below the highlights from each championship!

AJP Tour Mongolia National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Local black belts fight for the gold in Ulaanbaatar

On January 26th and 27th, the Wrestling Palace in Ulaanbaatar welcomed black belts from all over the world to put their skills to the test on the internationally recognized AJP mats. On Saturday, the second and last day of the competition, three black belts went through the ringer against their fellow countrymen to take the Professional gold.

First, in the 77kg division, Erdenebaatar Ulziitogtokh (Ralph Gracie Mongolia) went toe-to-toe against his teammate Davaadorj Munkhtur in an action-packed final round. Erdenebaatar completely dominated the duel, scoring 19-0 before ultimately submitting and seizing the gold medal. Meanwhile, in the 120kg bracket, Ariuntsog Baasandorj (Elf Sport Academy) opened his bag of tricks against Ulziibayar Selemjav (Garuda Jiu Jitsu Academy), landing a submission to climb the podium in his homeland.

Last but not least, in the women’s category, Khulan Batbaatar (Thunder BJJ Academy) had a well-balanced match against Mongoljin Ganbaatar (Garuda Jiu Jitsu Academy). The bout lasted the entirety of the regulated five minutes, and by the end, Khulan rose as the 70kg division champion via a 2-0 score.

AJP Tour São Paulo International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Gabriel Volante dominates to become a champion in Brazil

On Sunday, January 28th, the Ginásio Poliesportivo Dr.Antônio Leme Nunes Galvão was the stage for a day of high-level competition, with athletes from all ages and graduations leaving their mark on the battlefield as they fought for the glory of becoming a champion. But among all the contenders, the Professional black belt Gabriel Volante (Xcoach Team) stole the spotlight, dominating his weight division and taking the gold in his homeland.

In the 94kg bracket, Gabriel started his campaign by submitting Gustavo Guimarães (Corinthians Jiu Jitsu) in the quarterfinals and then went on to land another submission on Weslley Leite (Tozi Jiu Jitsu) to reach the finals. Despite not submitting again in the gold round, Gabriel still completely dominated in his last match, scoring 13-0 against Darlison Pimenta (GFTeam) to take the title in the tournament.
