Weekend Recap: Professionals show their prowess in the Milan International

November 4, 2024

Taking place this Sunday, November 3rd, the AJP Tour Milan International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 was the place to be in Europe for fight fans and athletes. With five fight areas set up at the Centro Pavesi FIPAV, in Rome, the tournament welcomed competitors of all ages and graduations to step up to the mats and put their skills to the test while vying for the prize of 600 AJP ranking points.

Representing the top of the competitive food chain, the Professional black belt category was on fire at the event. Starting in the 94kg division, the Brazilian Augusto Soares (Lotus Club Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Milano) went toe-to-toe against the local Andrea Da Pozzo (L'accademia) in the division final. With no submissions from either side, the match took up the entirety of the regulated time, with Augusto getting the upper hand but only barely as Andrea showcased good technique and defense. When the clock ran out, a 3-0 score gave Augusto the win and the title.

Later on, in the No-Gi 94kg division, the local Carlos Edoardo Cristilli (Lotus Club Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Milano) ended up facing Andrea Da Pozzo, who returned to the mats to seek the title once again. Andrea had a better performance this time around and even managed to score a few times, but Carlos' technique gave him the advantage in the match, which ended in a 6-3 for the Lotus athlete.

Meanwhile, on the women's side, Hungary's Tamara Toros (Atos) dominated the 62kg division, outscoring the Italian Marta Giaimo (Gracie Barra Italy) by 11-1 in the semifinal and then submitting the local Giulia Angiolini (Tribe Jiu Jitsu Italia) halfway through the match. Up in the 70kg division, the Brazilian Enaile dos Anjos (MOD UAE) went through the bracket like a freight train, submitting the local Elisa Guerra (Caimani Team Treviso Ita) in the semis and then landing another submission against Germany's Svenja Juffernbruch (BJJ Team Basel) to take the gold. Last but not least, Svenja Juffernbruch brushed off her previous loss and made her way to the No-Gi 70kg division, in which she defeated Elisa Guerra for the title.
