ADXC: Fans choose the best submission of 2024
January 28, 2025
From its inception all the way to its debut edition, the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship was always meant to be a show. With its merciless cage, a ruleset that favors aggressive play, and some of the toughest competitors from Jiu-Jitsu, Grappling, and MMA, the tournament has been finely tuned to be an action-packed spectacle, with athletes putting on their very best performances as they seek the laurels of victory. With the ADXC coming out of an incredible season in 2024, the organization decided to give fight fans even more chances to interact with the event and left it up to the people to choose the best submission of 2024, with Meyram Maquiné's armbar on ADXC 7 coming out on top of the popular vote.
The submission took place in the ADXC 7's Jiu-Jitsu Co-Main Event, which had the Brazilian Meyram Maquiné fighting in his own homeland against the American powerhouse Sebastian Serpa. Despite being Meyram's very first match in the organization, the Brazilian athlete showed confidence and sported his usual swagger even in the tournament's press conference, plainly stating that the fight would end with him submitting Sebastian. And when the big day came up, he made good on that promise.
The duel started with Meyram showcasing his agility and landing a takedown on Sebastian, who struggled to defend himself as his opponent kept moving around while taking hold of his leg. As he tried setting up his defenses to avoid Meyram's attacks, Sebastian ended up leaving his arm unguarded and the Brazilian literally leaped at this opportunity, jumping over his opponent to lock a lightning-fast armbar and ending the duel in a little over a minute of the first round (Click here to check out the submission).
The other running candidates were Fellipe Andrew's triangle choke, which landed him the victory over Uanderson Ferreira in the ADXC 1's preliminary card; Rayron Gracie's lapel choke, used to beat Fellipe Andrew in the ADXC 3's Jiu-Jitsu Co-Main Event; and Rayron Gracie's canto choke in the ADXC 5's Jiu-Jitsu Main Event, which gave him the win over Marcos Carrozzino.
