ADGS Tokyo: Masters black belts opens the action in Japan

The wait is over. The AJP Abu Dhabi Grand Slam is finally back in Japan, with its traditional tournament held in Tokyo. This Saturday, January 13th, the best athletes in the world in the amateur and masters divisions took action at the Ota Gymnasium, in search of gold medals and the glory of winning at ADSG.

The highlight of the day, the master 1 division disputes delivered everything fans expected, with the right dose of action and refined technique from the experienced competitors. Check out below the highlights.

Starting with the Men's Gi Black belt, in the light-featherweight division, Brazilian Emerson Cassio took the gold by beating Justin Ordinário in the first fight and then beating South Korean Gyeongseop Lee, on points. In the featherweight category, local athlete Tomoyuki Hashimoto, from Japan, finished two fights until reaching the final against Chilean Nicolas Ponce, a duel he won 6-1 on points.

In lightweight, Georgian athlete Dzhimsher Razmadze finished his three fights toward gold, including the final against the very tough Brazilian Rafael Mansur. In the welterweight division, Talison Costa confirmed his favoritism by submitting fellow AJP veteran Andre Cantanhede.

At middleweight, the UAE player Mohamed Alamri got a big win to his credit. After submitting Frenchman Thomas Mietz and beating Russian Nikolay Salmin on points, Mohamed went all out against favorite Pedro Neto and beat the Brazilian on points, to secure the title. In the light-heavyweight division, Manuel Ribamar confirmed his favoritism, finishing two fights and beating two compatriots on points, including the final against Ives Sacramento, 11-0. In the Super Heavyweight, Belgian-born Brazilian Paulo Brasil beat Matheus Felipe by referee decision.

In the Women's Gi Brown/Black belt, the highlights were Lee Ai Jin, Malaysian roosterweight champion; Yin Yi Wang, a competitor from China who won the light featherweight division; Yunlu Fang, also from China, lightweight champion; and Magdalena Loska, from Poland, middleweight champion.
