ADGS Dallas 2024: Professionals close the tournament with golden campaigns in Texas

Following a stellar showing from Youths, Amateurs, and Masters on the first day, the ADGS Dallas 2024 doubled down on the action on the second and last day of the tournament, bringing the heavy hitters of the Professional category to the mats of the Curtis Culwell Center, in Texas, to show their best performances as they sought the gold. Coming as the stars of the second day, the black belts from the Professional category spared no efforts to advance through the brackets and conquer their respective weight classes. MEN'S GI / BLACK / PROFESSIONAL
56kg - Bruno Sena vs Roiter Lima
In the 56kg division, Bruno Sena went through a challenging final to take the title. Facing Roiter Lima for the gold, Bruno started by attacking the foot and taking his first point for the submission attempt. Working from the guard, Bruno avoided Roiter's pass attempts and, in the final moments, managed to go up to close the score at 3-0.
62kg - Yuri Hendrex vs Eduardo Arias
Yuri Hendrex bested Eduardo Arias and added another gold medal to his resumé. After both athletes received a penalty, Yuri rose from the double pull and took the lead with a 2-1 score. After hitting the side and raising the score to 3-1, Yuri managed to avoid a sweep attempt and passed the guard, earning three more points. Eduardo managed to get his guard back, but Yuri used his pressure to control from the top and ended the duel with a 6-1 score to take his spot atop the podium.
69kg - Israel almeida vs Ademir Araujo
A very balanced final between GFTeam athletes Israel and Ademir was decided in the details in the 69kg division. With Ademir playing guard and looking for a chance to sweep, Israel had both his technique and resilience put to the test as he avoided attacks and tried to find the chance to tip the scales in his favor. In the last seconds of the match, Ademir pulled again and Israel unleashed all his pressure, almost passing and gaining the defining point just moments before the clock ran out. With a 1-0 on the scoreboard, Israel got the win and the title.
77kg - Jefferson Goteu vs Matheus Luna
Highly technical on the ADGS Dallas' mats, Jefferson Goteu conquered the 77kg division after beating Matheus Luna in the gold round. After pulling and sweeping to take the lead with a 2-0, Jefferson found himself unable to pass Matheus' de la riva guard. Without wasting any time, Jefferson promptly changed his strategy, pulled, and then swept again to gain two more points. After receiving a penalty for an illegal grip on the pants, Matheus managed to sweep and put the score at 5-2, but Jefferson quickly swept again and raised his advantage to 7-2. In the final moments, Matheus managed to go up one last time, closing the scoreboard at 7-4 and giving the title to Jefferson.
85kg - Jonnatas Gracie vs Uanderson Ferreira
Representing Atos Jiu Jitsu, Jonnatas Gracie showed his strategic side to emerge victorious in the 85kg division. Facing the dangerous Uanderson Ferreira in the final, Jonnatas gave his opponent no room for his usual antics, pulling and sweeping to seize the lead with a 2-0. After struggling for a while, Uanderson managed to get up and almost got a takedown, but Jonnatas defended before pulling. Uanderson gained one point for almost passing and spent the final seconds of the match trying to pass the guard, with Jonnatas going on the defensive until the clock ran out to become the champion with a 2-1 score.
94kg - Fellipe Andrew vs Jackson Sousa
An explosive duel in the 94kg final. After a beautiful seoi nage takedown that put Jackson Sousa in the lead with a 2-0, Fellipe Andrew worked from below, attacked on the foot, and swept straight to the mount, putting the scoreboard at 6-2. Jackson managed to escape the mount and almost swept, but Fellipe defended and even attempted a triangle, not landing the submission but still winning with a 6-2.
120kg - Felipe Bezerra vs Igor Schneider
Felipe Bezerra led a one-man show against Igor "Tigrão" Schneider in the 120kg final. After an attempt in the first few seconds, Felipe managed to take Igor down and put the scoreboard at 3-0, but Igor quickly found his footing. Igor then pulled, prompting Felipe to spin, pass the guard twice, and put his knee on the stomach, adding up to 11-0. After gaining another point for almost mounting, Felipe found himself in Igor's half-guard and almost passed again to put the scoreboard at 13-0 and become the champion in the heaviest weight class.
WOMEN'S GI / BROWN / BLACK / PROFESSIONAL
49kg - Diana Teixeira vs Erika Machado
Diana Teixeira became the 49kg champion on the ADGS Dallas' second day. Facing Erika Machado for the title, Diana kicked off the final with a takedown, before almost taking the back twice and scoring 4-0. After entering Diana's closed guard, Erika managed to stand up and escape, but Diana used the move to attack with an omoplata. Trying to avoid the submission, Erika ended up doing an illegal grip on the pants and got disqualified, giving Diana the title.
55kg - Maria Luisa Delahaye vs Ashlee Funegra
Facing Ashlee Funegra in the final, Maria Luisa Delahaye got the 55kg title. Maria kicked off the duel by pulling and sweeping, prompting Ashlee to sweep back and put the score at 2-2. Maria landed another submission, landing a 4-2 and controlling the rest of the match to take the win.
62kg - Julia Alves vs Sarah Galvão
An explosive match between Julia Alves and Sarah Galvão in the 62kg division final. Sarah started by pulling and attacking the foot, with Julia defending before getting swept. Julia managed a sweep of her own and tied the score, but Sarah quickly went up again to make it 4-2. Fighting from the top, Sarah was controlling well, but Julia managed to destabilize her opponent and went up tying the score again. Despite her many efforts, Sarah was unable to break the tie, so Julia took the win by scoring last at the 4-4 match.
70kg - Giovanna Carneiro vs Leticia dos Santos
A quick match between Fratres teammates Giovanna and Leticia in the 70kg division final. Giovanna went all out from the get-go, pulling, locking a triangle, and then shifting to an armlock to get the three taps and the gold medal.
95kg - Yara Nascimento vs Isabely Lemos
Yara Nascimento once again becomes a champion on the ADGS mats. Facing Isabely Lemos in the 95kg division final, Yara saw herself get taken down in the first few seconds of the match, with Isabely taking the lead at 2-0. Using her lasso guard, Yara first destabilized her opponent and then spun to go up, tying the score at 2-2. With Yara controlling from the top, Isabely was unable to score again, leaving the win and the title to Yara, who scored last to take the gold.
With the second and last day of the tournament completed, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour now gets ready for its next chapter in China, bringing the ADGS Xi'an to the Asian country between October 18th and 20th.
