December 5, 2024
With the eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship set to begin this Friday, December 6th, the organization has already kicked off the many attractions that precede the competition during the fight week. After the open workout session that took place last Monday, the athletes and organizers of the tournament gathered in the Adnec Centre, in Al Ain, to talk about the upcoming show.
Kicking off the conference, the IVSM General Manager Mr. Tareq Al Bahri opened up about how proud he is about the tournament and reassured attending fight fans and media outlets of the UAE's commitment to achieve excellence in combat sports.
"As we celebrate the 53rd UAE National Day , I am pleased to welcome you all to this great event that carries within it the pride in our national identity and authentic heritage, as well as reflects our commitment to continuing the path of excellence in the sports of Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, and mixed martial arts. We continue to present the strongest championships, inspired by excellence and creativity from our wise leadership and the vision of the Emirates that combines a rich heritage and innovation. In this context, we would also like to thank the Regional Development Department in the Al Ain and Al Dhafra Region of the Department of Culture and Tourism for their distinguished efforts and great interest in supporting the championship and its athletes, which had a significant impact in enhancing the status and development of these sports."
After that, Mr.Saeed Al Dhaheri, the director of the Regional Development Department in Al Ain and Al Dhafra's Department of Culture and Tourism, offered his thoughts about the effects of creating such a powerful event and encouraged people to explore the beautiful city of Al Ain.
“This tournament contributes to strengthening the emirate’s position as a global destination for sporting events and highlights how sports can unite everyone under its banner. We encourage you to go beyond the competition and explore the city's splendor alongside its culture, hospitality, historical landmarks, and unique markets. We see the athletes as a source of inspiration with their determination and resolve, and we wish them success. The continued support and enthusiasm shown by the public and the media also enhance the distinction of our events. We extend special thanks to the tournament organizers and wish everyone a unique experience in Al Ain.”
Following the organizers, the athletes who will compete in the ADXC 8 received the floor and talked about their expectations for the event. For his part, Amir Albazi, who will be featured in a Grappling bout against Jafel Filho, thanked the organization and showed himself to be excited about his upcoming match.
"First, I want to thank everyone here", said Amir. "My career as a competitor started in Jiu-Jitsu and one of my first major tournaments was right here in the UAE, so I'm very excited to be back. My opponent may be good at it, but Jiu-Jitsu is what I do best."
Unshaken by Amir's confidence, Jafel Filho not only was happy to be a part of the competition but also gave the attending crowd a sneak peek into his plans to taste his first victory in the ADXC.
"I'm really happy to be here", opened Jafel. "I came here all the way from Brazil and I have no problems about facing a challenge. In fact, I believe this will be great for my career. I'll be looking to land a choke, but I'm also willing to take an arm or leg if I get the chance."
Set to face Haisam Rida in another Main Card Grappling bout, Roberto Cyborg talked about how thrilling it is to be back in the United Arab Emirates to compete and how his stay in Al Ain has been going.
"It is a great privilege to be here once again", started Cyborg. "I've been competing in the UAE for the last decade, so it is a gift to be able to be here for the 53rd anniversary of a culture that has embraced Jiu-Jitsu and done so much for it. We were very well received here in Al Ain. We made a point to visit the historical sites and learn more about the heritage and culture, so I'd like to thank you all for the opportunity. I love living this moment."
Meanwhile, a focused Haisam Rida talked about participating in the ADXC and how its format may help him emerge victorious come Friday.
"This is by far the coolest event I've ever been part of", praised Haisam. "It is going to be a very exciting match, and I think using the cage will be a good way to increase my effectiveness and take the win."
