
Neuchâtel International: Tunisian, Italian, and Brazilian among champions

Known for its castles and vineyards, the city of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, hosted a high level of competitive BJJ in this edition of the AJP Tour Neuchâtel International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. Held at the Halle de Sport de la Riveraine, on March 25th, the tournament featured a lot of action from all ages and belt divisions.
The highlights of the tournament were the black belt bouts, with an honorable mention to Ahmed Laaribi, a Tunisian athlete that dominated the 77kg professional division. With two fights in the bracket, Ahmed opened the tournament by submitting Jorge Grillo, from Venezuela, to then face and beat the Brazilian John Dantas via the referee's decision.
Another highlight goes to Janairo do Carmo. The Brazilian black belt, from the local Gracie Barra Fribourg, won his final round in the 94kg professional division by beating Jhoannan Vielma, a Chilean athlete from Frates BJJ, by 5-4.
In the women's brown/black division, Italian Eliamar Guimarães, from Gracie Barra Anderlecht, came out on top. With one fight in her bracket, Eliamar beat the Portuguese Melany Tavares by 1-0, guaranteeing the division title.
