Returning for its second day of competition, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour Xi'An 2024 had the action dialed all the way up to eleven yet again. After the Masters showcased their skills and experience while opening the event yesterday, this Saturday, October 19th, the Youth category took the stage and painted a promising picture for the future of the sport.
This time, the Shaanxi Sports Training Center belonged entirely to the colored belts, with white being the vast majority across all five fight areas. With so much potential going around, check out the highlights from the second day of the ADGS Xi'An 2024 below, and for the full results, click here.
Starting with the Youth Men category, the Russian blue belt Ramazanov Mukhammed, from Strela Team, showed his prowess while facing the local Changli Zheng in the 60kg final, dominating his opponent, scoring 16-1, and then landing a winning submission around the two-minute mark. Meanwhile, the Chinese white belt Zilin Ding, from Enjoy the Process Jiu-Jitsu, took the 66kg division gold after facing three compatriots in the bracket, first submitting Xutianze Liu in the quarters, then scoring 6-0 over Chiyu Xiong, and finally getting a narrow 3-1 win against Xiangbo Feng in his last match.
Moving on to the Junior category, the Chinese yellow belt Jiayi Sun brought the 50kg title to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Qingdao. After defeating Yucheng Yan by a whopping 13-0 in the semifinal, Jiayi advanced to the gold round, facing Shengkang Tai for the title and saving his spot atop the podium with a sound 9-2 score. On the girl's side, the local white belt Xinyao Li represented Atos 901 and took the win in the 44kg division. Facing Chi-Na Fight Club's Aijia Zhong in the final round, Xinyao showed her talent throughout the regulated time, scoring 12-0 and taking the title.
Closing the highlights, the Infant category also had some gems well worth watching. Representing Checkmat International, the Russian yellow belt Adam Osmanov showed his prowess in the 46kg final. Up against the local Jingfan Chen, from Gracie Barra, Adam went all-in with his attack, scoring two points and then submitting with a little over one minute on the clock. Last but not least, China's yellow belt Chengyu Shao, from ZXHBJJ, conquered the 42kg title by beating his compatriot Yubo Zhao, from Red Snake. The match lasted the entirety of the regulated time, with Yubo fighting valiantly but having a hard time against Chengyu, who managed to score multiple times before the end of the match. With a 9-3 sitting on the scoreboard, Chengyu became the division champion and took another important step toward his future in the sport.
