Singapore National: Black belts fight tooth and nail for the AJP title in Asia
August 18, 2025
Held at Dulwich College on Sunday, August 17th, the AJP Tour Singapore National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025 was yet another explosive competition taking place this weekend, with athletes of all ages and graduations rising to the mats to test their skills and fight for the chance to become champions in the AJP. Offering 1000 global ranking points in addition to the organization's coveted gold medal, the event set up its mats and brought about an entire afternoon of action to the Asian country, with the aces of the black belt group shining bright as they used their best moves to reach the top of the podium.
In the Professional category, William Dias and Fatima Eltassi were the highlights. Starting with the men, the Australian William Dias represented the Clube Feijão team as he stepped up to the battlefield to face the Brazilian Breno Guimarãesk, from Evolve MMA, in the 94kg division final. While there were no submissions and the match ended up lasting the entire regulated time, William was always in control during the clash, taking the lead early on and then piling up points while keeping his opponent from having a proper chance to fight back. At the end of it all, an astounding 10-0 score gave William the chance to take the gold medal back to Down Under.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Fatima Eltassi added another victory for the GFTeam in the AJP, this time with a last-minute submission over Brazil's Isadora Maggioni, from MOD UAE. The match once again went until the final minute, but this one was much more balanced as Isadora held the line with defensive techniques while looking for a chance to turn the tables on her opponent. For her part, Fatima got the lead on the scoreboard but kept looking for a chance to submit, and that chance came about only in the final moments of the bout, as the Canadian launched a quick and unexpected attack to get the three taps and ensure her trip to the top of the podium.
Moving on to the Master category, two athletes showcased their experience and technical know-how to become champions in the tournament. First, the Australian Juliano Branco, from Clube Feijão, used his best tricks and moves to overcome the local Squad Zero representative Amirul Syafiq with a narrow 5-3 score in the Master 1 77kg division. Then, in the Master 2 62kg bracket, the Malaysian Ngeoh Cong brought the gold medal to the Carpe Diem BJJ Singapore team with a quick win over Japan's Jun Matsumoto, with the former putting the pedal to the metal from the start to overwhelm the Evolve MMA athlete and locking the winning submission in less than 20 seconds.
