Weekend Recap: AJP closes 2024 with the explosive Bishkek International

December 23, 2024

Coming to Central Asia for its last tournament of the year, the AJP brought its signature action to the country of Kyrgyzstan last Saturday, December 21st. Held at the Gymnasium School 29, the AJP Tour Bishkek International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 gave local and foreign athletes the chance to test their skills one last time before we bid farewell to 2024, attracting many talented colored belts to its three fight areas and gifting the community with another full afternoon of competition.

Among the many warriors who stepped up to the mats that day, two athletes from the Professional category managed to stand out with their skills and grit as they conquered the gold in their respective weight divisions. Fighting in the 94kg division, the local brown belt Timur Choriev (Kyrgyzstan Top Team) went all-out against the Kazakh Yernar Baigenzhiyev (The Golden Warrior KZ) in the final round. The match took up the entirety of the regulated time, with both sides dishing out attacks while avoiding any submission attempts until the clock ran out. With the best moments throughout the bout, Timur managed to score 6-4 and take his rightful spot atop the podium.

Meanwhile, the purple belts from the Kyrgyzstan Top Team collided against one another in the 69kg division, with Daniyar Zhamankulov coming out on top of the bracket. Starting in the semifinal, Daniyar first had a fierce and balanced battle against Askat Uulu, with Daniyar taking the win via decision after neither side managed to submit or even score against the other. For his final round, though, Daniyar decided to put the pedal to the metal and didn't take long to overwhelm Erzhan Zaripov, scoring 4-0 before ultimately submitting halfway through the duel to take the gold.
