Weekend Recap: AJP brings high-octane action to Jordan and Spain

February 10, 2025

Another busy weekend here at AJP, with the organization keeping steady in its goal to spread the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu while also giving its practitioners the chance to live from the sport. This time around, the organization brought about two different tournaments for fight fans, with a National in Jordan and then an International in the Spanish city of Valencia. Without further ado, let's check out the highlights from each championship.

AJP Tour Jordan National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025: Amro Alsammarraie, Moayed Barakat, and Tareq Shishani take the Professional gold in Amman

Taking place on Friday, February 7th, the Jordan National brought the flames of competition to the Sports Palace Hall in Amman for an entire afternoon of competition, with athletes of all ages and graduations putting their skills to the test while seeking the gold and ranking points reserved for the ones who would become champions.

Highlighting the event, three purple belts from the Professional category used all the tools at their disposal to conquer the respective weight classes and take another important step in their careers. Starting in the 77kg division, the Iraqi Amro Alsammarraie (FightX Martial Arts) got the better of the local Muhammad Baj (Alpha Academy) in the final round, scoring 9-0 and then landing a submission at the last minute of the match to take the top spot on the podium. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Moayed Barakat (Commando Group) reigned over the 85kg division after defeating the Jordanian Sanad Abutayeh (FightX Martial Arts) in a five-minute match by 6-1.

Over on the no-gi side, the local Tareq Shishani (Combat .Jo) went toe-to-toe with his compatriot Muhammad Baj (Alpha Academy) for the 77kg title. But while the match was scheduled for five minutes, Tareq had no intentions of letting the fight drag on and put the pedal to the metal from the get-go, quickly overwhelming his opponent and landing a submission around the one-minute mark to become the division champion.

AJP Tour Valencia International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025: Jonas Andrade keeps the double gold in Spain

On Sunday, February 9th, the Valencia National welcomed local and foreign competitors to the Pabellón Malvarrosa and brought eight fight areas to the venue, giving athletes from all categories the chance to showcase their skills as they fought to reach the top of their respective weight divisions.

Among the many champions who rose that day, the local black belt Jonas Andrade (Humbling Jiu Jitsu Club) impressed fight fans with his performances, which landed him the coveted double gold at the event. Starting his campaign with a three-man bracket in the 62kg division, Jonas first got an impressive 22-0 win over his compatriot Jose Beteta (Ja Jiu-Jitsu España) to save his spot in the final. Meanwhile, Ecuador's Enrique Guerrero (Team Predador International) used his skills to land a submission against Jose Beteta and compete for the gold against Jonas. The gold round was a balanced one, with both sides scoring while avoiding each other's attacks, but Jonas saw his chance in the final moments of the duel and managed to lock the winning submission 20 seconds before the end of the bout.

Later on, Jonas returned to the mats looking for another title and joined the no-gi 62kg bracket. With a sole opponent this time around, Jonas ended up running into Jose Beteta yet again and their match played out much like the first one. After seizing the lead on the scoreboard, Jonas unleashed his Jiu-Jitsu and remained dominant throughout the regulated time, scoring multiple times while giving his adversary almost no chance to fight back. When the clock ran out, a whopping 25-0 score gave Jonas the win and cemented his status as a double champion in the tournament.
