Eight years ago, Francisco José de Abreu (a Jiu Jitsu black belt and IBJJF member) started the GFTeam project in Mozambique with underprivileged children in his neighbourhood in the city of Maputo. The project grew quickly as it was a social project with no costs involved and many children and young people saw it as an opportunity and the only chance to learn a martial art. God has blessed GFTeam Mozambique through sponsorship and the purchase of kimonos, which has enabled three championships to be held over the last few years, which has seen the youngsters develop into a school that now has one black belt, two brown belts, four purple belts and two blue belts. This project also relies on the help of the graduates to continue. GFTeam Mozambique's desire is to prepare its students for high-level international competitions.
