AJP Egypt National: Kids, Masters, and Professionals in action on AJP's debut in Cairo

The historic city of Cairo was the stage chosen for the debut of the AJP Tour Egypt National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. On their first day of fights, on March 3rd, athletes from the younger divisions wore the gi, while adults and masters faced off in the no-gi divisions. Five mat areas were set up in the New Capital Indoor Hall, and the structure of the event was exemplary. The First Abu Dhabi Bank is the official sponsor of AJP National Pro in Egypt.

On the podium, representatives of different nationalities showed the strength of the sport being represented on the African continent. In addition to the Egyptian locals and athletes from Algeria who reached the podium, competitors from nations such as Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine, Jordan, Lebanon, France, Cyprus, and Greece were also among the highlights. Nations already traditional in AJP tournaments such as Qatar, Kazakhstan, Bahrain, USA, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, were also present, as well as the always favorites UAE and Brazil.

NO-GI / BLUE / AMATEUR / 62KG

In a final match between two representatives of Africa, Abdel Aziz Abou El Leil of Egypt, and El Hadj Ahmed Ghezali of Algeria, faced each other in a dispute for the gold. On a bright day, Abdel Aziz didn't give his opponents a chance and won his two fights of the day by submission, both the semifinal against his compatriot from Egypt and the final against Algerian El Hadj.

NO-GI / BLUE / AMATEUR / 69KG

Fellow Egyptians and team partners Omar Salah and Hisham Nagaty stepped onto the mat for the final representing Anubis Jiu Jitsu. Better for Omar, who got the win with an impressive score of 12-1 against his teammate.

NO-GI / PURPLE / PROFESSIONAL / 69KG

Egyptian based in Abu Dhabi, Moayad Barakat comes to Egypt as the favorite for his 69kg bracket. He faced two fights until gold, and he won both in dominant fashion as he made 8-0 in the semifinal over Elsayed Elnady, to compete at the final and got the win over Momen Tarek making 10-2.

NO-GI / BROWN / PROFESSIONAL / 94KG

Dyaa Badran, from Egypt, was the big name in the 94kg purple belt dispute. PSLPB Cicero Costha representative, Dyaa won two fights, the first by 9-1, and in the final he avoided Amr Wahman's pressure from guard pass position to attack with a kimura from closed guard, submitting his opponent and guaranteeing the gold medal.

NO-GI / BLACK / PROFESSIONAL / 77KG

Brazilian Isaac da Silva had to beat the same tough opponent twice to become champion in Egypt. After losing to Magomed Ansarov in his first match, by 6-5, Isaac kept his mind strong and went all out for the second fight of your three-man bracket. Against Abd Elhakim, he capitalized 14-0 and came back to face Magomed in the final. Isaac defended a dangerous submission attempt to finally secure the gold with 5-2 on the scoreboard.
