April 29, 2024
While the North America Continental took competitive Jiu-Jitsu to the next level on the Floridian shores of Miami, the AJP kept the ball rolling with other tournaments, giving athletes worldwide more options when it comes to testing their skills. On Saturday, April 27th, the organization held competitions in Switzerland, Armenia, Hungary, and South Africa so let's check out the highlights from each championship!
AJP Tour Morges International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Masters put on a show in Switzerland
Landing at the Salle de Sport de Beausobre for an entire afternoon of competition, the Morges International opened its doors for colored and black belts alike to pursue gold and glory within the AJP. A standout at the tournament, the Master 1 category had some amazing performances as its competitors tapped into that experience to not only seize the victory but also teach their younger peers something about high-level competition while they did so.
In the 77kg division, the local João Ramos (KMR BJJ Kimura Norway) fought twice to reach the gold, beating his fellow countryman Gabler Armand (BJJ Switzerland) by a narrow 2-1 in the semis and then quickly submitting his Brazilian teammate Jayme Cardoso in the final. Meanwhile, in the 94kg division, Brazil's Rafael Sobrinho (JJB Yverdon) went toe-to-toe against the Swiss Jim Baumgartner (Karkara BJJ) for the whole five minutes of regulated time, seizing the title with a 9-0 score.
Last but not least, Gabler Armand brushed off his defeat earlier and returned to the 77kg division, this time fighting without the gi. In a Swiss-only bracket, Gabler went up against Ibrahim Belghith (Team Igor Araujo) for the gold, landing the winning submission with a little under two minutes on the clock to reach the top of the podium.

AJP Tour Kavkaz Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Vladislav Losev takes the double gold in Armenia
Asian athletes looking for a place to compete this Saturday had to look no further than the Armenian capital of Yerevan, as the Dynamo Sports Club opened its doors for Kavkaz Regional and welcomed athletes for another test of their skillset. Among the many attending colored belts, a Professional black belt from Russia managed to steal the spotlight by conquering the coveted double gold.
Starting his campaign in the 77kg division, Vladislav Losev (Supernova BJJ Academy) had two opponents to overcome before taking his first gold medal. In the semifinal, he went up against Australian Tyson Read (Legion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) in a very one-sided duel in which he scored 5-0 and submitted, all before the clock hit one minute. Then, in the final, the local Rafael Kostanyan (Legacy Jiu-Jitsu Armenia) gave him a run for his money, but Vladislav unleashed his game and got a 10-3 victory to close the bracket.
Returning to the mats later on, Vladislav fought without the gi to once again conquer the 77kg division. Rafael Kostanyan was his sole opponent this time around, but that doesn't mean that the fight was any easier, as both athletes managed to hold on for the entirety of the regulated time without submissions. When the clock ran out, a 3-0 score pointed to Vladislav Losev as the division champion yet again.

AJP Tour Gqeberha International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Anine Lombard and Johan de Goede keep the title in South Africa
Taking place at Walmer Community Hall last Saturday, the Gqeberha International attracted many competitors as it offered gold, glory, and 600 ranking points for division champions. But while every single warrior who took to the mats is praiseworthy, two local athletes managed to steal the spotlight with their victories.
In the Women's Professional 70kg division, Anine Lombard (East Rand Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy) showed her prowess while fighting her countrywoman Larochelle Grove (Excellence School of Jiu Jitsu PE). Dominating the duel from beginning to end, Anine gave her opponent no chance to score a single point while landing seven points of her own, all before ultimately submitting and ending the bout with a little over three minutes on the clock.
Meanwhile, the Master 2 No-Gi 94kg division saw the rise of Johan de Goede (Apex Jiu Jitsu Cape Town) as he faced and overcame both his opponents to take the gold. First, in the semifinal, Johan faced Jacques Bezuidenhout (Pesfa) over the course of the five regulated minutes of combat, advancing in the bracket with an 8-0 score. Then, in the final, he had a challenging duel against Rob De Lange (MVMT Lab Jiu Jitsu Club), losing by 2-0 before finding enough room to lock a winning submission in the last minute of the bout.
