Weekend Recap: AJP brings tournaments to Hungary, Brazil, and Malaysia

While the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour dialed the action all the way up to eleven as it held its first-ever event in China, the AJP made sure that athletes in other parts of the world had accessible options to showcase their Jiu-Jitsu. With three other tournaments taking place this weekend, let's check out the highlights from each championship.
AJP Tour Hungary National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Jonas Andrade and Akos Szekeres take the gold in Budapest
Taking place at the BGSZC Szent István Technikum és Kollégium on Sunday, October 20th, the Hungary National welcomed athletes of all ages and graduations to test their skills and fight for gold and glory in the AJP.
With a vast majority of colored belts, two black belts stood out among their peers with great performances that led them to the top of the podium. Starting in the Professional category, the Brazilian Jonas Andrade (Humbling Jiu Jitsu Club) fought a hard battle against Australia's Tyson Read (Legion Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). With no submissions from either side, the match took up the entirety of the regulated time and saw Jonas in the lead for most of it. When the clock ran out, a 3-0 score gave Jonas the gold medal.
Meanwhile, in the Master 1 category, the local Akos Szekeres (ZR Team Association) faced two Brazilians before he could call himself the 120kg division champion. In the semifinal, Akos went up against Bernardo Chaves (MOD UAE) and completely dominated the match, scoring a whopping 18-0 to advance to the gold round. In the last match, Akos had a much more challenging time while facing Leandro dos Santos (MOD UAE), with the match lasting the entirety of the regulated time and Akos emerging victorious by scoring last in a 6-6 tie.

AJP Tour Macapá International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Professional black belts conquer the gold in Brazil
Still on Sunday, the Macapá International set up six fight areas across the Centro Didático Estadual Ginásio Avertino Ramos, welcoming colored and black belts alike to join the fray and put their training to the test while seeking the top of their respective weight divisions. Among the many champions who rose to the top of the podium, the black belts from the Professional category were some of the fiercest.
Starting with the men, the 69kg division title went to Gilberto Silva (Clã Gilberto Silva Team), who fought tooth and nail to conquer a narrow 4-3 win over Wagner Junior (Atos). In the 77kg division, Matheus Da Silva (Hunters Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) submitted Matheus Nunes (Lotus Club) and Alexandre Ferreira (Black Norte) to take the title, while Breno Furtado (Lotus Club) got a 5-0 victory against his teammate Alerrandro Nascimento to become the 120kg champion. On the no-gi side, Lucas Bessa (GFTeam) outscored both Matheus Nunes and Matheus da Silva to conquer the 77kg gold.
Moving on to the women, Beatriz Moraes (Atos) got two wins before outscoring Aline Pessoa (GFTeam) for the 62kg division gold, while Maria Cruz (GFTeam) submitted her teammate Estefanny Nobre for the 95kg title. Last but not least, Livia Piedade (GFTeam) showed her no-gi skills and submitted both Aline Pessoa and Heloiane Monteiro (Akxe BJJ RJ) on her way to the top of the 70kg division podium.

AJP Tour South East Asia Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024: Colored belts earn the gold and experience in Malaysia
Held at the Dwi Emas International School on Saturday, October 19th, the South East Asia Regional gave local blooming talent a chance to hone their skills in the competitive environment and to taste victory for the first time in an internationally recognized organization.
Coming as the highlight of the event, the American purple belt Mateo Hurtado (Carpe Diem BJJ Singapore) showed his promising Jiu-Jitsu in the 77kg division. Facing the local Gary Chow (Marcos Escobar BJJ) for the title, Mateo unleashed his Jiu-Jitsu and completely dominated the match, scoring 13-0 before ultimately submitting his opponent about halfway through the duel.
Meanwhile, two local female blue belts from the Amateur category also made waves as they conquered their weight classes. In the 55kg division, Bless Yeap (Leão Dourado BJJ Korea) had a rough duel against compatriot Carmen Teh (Akela JJ), taking the win and the title by 4-1. Carmen later returned to the mats and fought without the gi in the 49kg division, landing a narrow 3-2 win over the Indonesian Nurul Azizah (Grind JiuJitsu Indonesia).
